Saint john hotel valletta11/10/2023 Johns hotel which is located in the middle of the old ancient town of Valetta and therefore very central to the ocean and harbour. Would we return, a definite yes and we are looking at booking next February 2024… In short, I could not fault this hotel it was without doubt first class, from room,to food to service all excellent. The Hotel group also own the Cheeky Monkey bar and restaurant, ideal for pasta, burgers etc, dined there as well and it was good value for money and good quality The roof terrace in the Rosselli was open and we spent a chilled couple of hours late Sunday afternoon, very well laid out plus there is a spa poo/ jacuzzi, not in use as it was too early in the season. The Rosselli has a Michelin star restaurant, we dined outside and the food was excellent, try the lasagne cooked with black ink from the octopus and minced octopus, delicious. Breakfast was taken at the Rosselli, service was excellent, continental on a three tier stand with bread, pastries, meat, cheeses and fruit plus a choice of eggs, cooked to your choice, recommend the omelette with everything in it with side of crispy bacon. No noise heard, even though the Valletta festival was in full swing once you shut the balcony door, you shut out any sound. Such as a coffee machine, fresh water in a jug, replaced daily, plus we had an enclosed balcony over looking Merchants Street. Our accommodation was nothing short of superb, beautiful room with all the facilities you need and a few more beside. The reception was very welcoming, glass of fizz whilst we filled in the paperwork and then off to our accommodation The Rossellini is 5 star, the St John, 4 star. We booked this boutique hotel through EasyJet, of all people, and when we arrived to check in at the sister hotel,Rossellini AX Privelege, which was three doors down, I thought we had struck gold. The bar on the roof terrace was not open during our stay and we did not eat in the hotel's Michelin star restaurants, other than our breakfast. There is a pool on the roof terrace of the Rosselli, which we could have used but it was just too cold to consider that. They also arranged for us to visit one of their other hotels where we could swim and have a sauna. The hotel acknowledged my birthday with a bottle of prosecco and a swan towel, petal and sweetie display, which was nice. There is plenty of space to add an extra chest of drawers without spoiling the appearance of the room. It was a little short of storage space for us ( but would be fine for guests with less luggage and staying for a shorter time). Our room at the front of the property, overlooking the street, with a traditional Valletta balcony was comfortable, clean and spacious. Eggs and porridge were also available, cooked to order. Fresh orange juice, whatever coffee or tea you wanted and a generous selection of fresh fruits, cheese and hams, pastries and breads. Paul, the restaurant manager chatted to us each morning and looked after us very well and the breakfast was great. This can be inside or outside on the terrace area of the street. St John guests have breakfast at the Rosselli, a few doors away. It's a great bar, serving light meals and cocktails, always busy and with attentive, pro-active staff. ![]() The bar next door but one ( Capitol Bar) had a live singer on most nights until about 11 pm. The Cheeky Monkey gastro pub owned by AX Group is right outside The St John and we ate there on two occasions ( discount for hotel guests). There are plenty of restaurants and bars with outside terraces (covered in the winter etc) and indoor seating in Merchant Street, so no need to go very far to find a choice of places to eat. It was a great base for exploring Valletta. ![]() We spent 10 days at the St John during January.
